Colin Boland is a singer songwriter from Calgary that came into his own as a musician as a part of the traditional music community of Victoria BC.  As the front man of a bluegrass and old time group , “The Stowaway Stringband”, he orchestrated the “Wind Powered Tour” where “The Stowaways” toured the west coast of BC for three years by sailboat playing at music festival, private functions and pubs in the ports and anchorages along the way.  He has now embarked on a solo project and released a CD of nine original tunes where he plays his guitar and banjo, and sings songs of the landscapes and people who have inspired him in his travels.   This self-titled CD was recorded by Archie Pateman of “The Breakmen” in Cumberland BC.

Boland’s album is Country, Bluegrass, and Old Time with a salty grit from his days at sea.

Drawing from the plethora of talent in BC and Alberta, this new EP has the musicianship of many greats from Boland’s music community including Christopher Herbst from “The Moonshiners”, Jack Roland “The Cumberland Brothers”, Matthew Lawson “The Breakmen”, Banjo Pete Reid, Simon Kendall, Lee Watson, Eric Allen, and Archie Pateman.  The CD was mastered by Corwin Fox.

After reading an article in the Fretboard Journal about John Hartford, Boland realized that along with his passion of music, he could also follow his passion of boats.  John Hartford being a legendary musician and river boat captain on the Mississippi inspired Boland to go to sea for adventure.  He is now sailing around the world on an old classic yacht and playing music in the ports and pubs along the way.  His dream of the “Wind Powered Tour” is going international.
